From timing car washes around the sun… to a better way in Australia
I’m Marko, and Spot Free Rinse started by accident.
One day I was using my window cleaning gear and some of the water splashed onto my brand-new car. Instinctively I rushed to dry it before the spots set in - then realised it wasn’t tap water. It was purified water. It dried perfectly spot-free.
That weekend I washed the whole car the same way and it came up flawless.
Like most Australians, I’d always washed cars the usual way: rinse, soap, rinse… then race the sun with a towel. I’d try early mornings before the driveway heated up, or late afternoons and deal with mosquitoes - and somehow I still ended up with spots and streaks.
A system used overseas - but hard to get here
In the United States, detailers have been using compact deionised (DI) rinse systems for years. Wash as normal, then rinse with pure water. No drying. No wiping. No mineral marks.
When I tried to find a proper option in Australia, there wasn’t much. Mostly small cartridge style units with limited capacity, or window cleaning systems that could only handle low flow.
So I started testing: different resins, different fittings, different flow rates. I built prototypes until I had a compact DI rinse system that suits Australian water quality, pressure, and everyday use.
The moment it clicked
The first time I washed my new car with pure water and let it air dry, it was hard to leave it.
But it dried perfectly clear - no spots, no streaks - and that’s when I knew this needed to exist locally.
Not a commercial system.
Not a bulky setup.
Just something portable that anyone can connect to a garden hose.
